Common questions

Everything you've wanted to ask

General

How often should I come in for a check-up?

Every six months is a good rhythm for most people in the family. If you've had gum trouble, a few cavities in the past, or you're wearing braces, we'll suggest coming in a little more often so we can catch anything small before it becomes something big.

Are dental implants painful?

Most of our patients tell us afterwards, "I wish I'd done it sooner." The procedure itself is done with local anesthetic, so you don't feel anything during it. A bit of mild soreness for a few days afterwards is normal and easily handled with simple pain relief — we'll guide you through every step.

My tooth hurts but I don't see a cavity — what's going on?

Pain doesn't always come from a cavity you can see. It could be a tiny crack, sore gums, sinus pressure, night-time grinding, or an infection starting deeper inside the tooth. Come in and let us have a proper look with a quick X-ray — we'll find the cause and tell you exactly what's going on.

How long do dental implants last?

With good brushing and regular check-ups, the titanium implant itself can last you a lifetime. The visible crown on top usually serves you well for 15–20 years before normal everyday wear means it needs to be replaced — much like a tyre on a well-loved car.

Cosmetic

Should I get veneers or composite bonding?

Bonding is quicker, gentler on your natural tooth, and easy to reverse later — perfect for small chips or gaps. Veneers last longer and resist stains better, and they're a great choice if you'd like to change the look of several teeth at once. Come in for a chat and we'll honestly tell you which one suits you best — including which one is kinder to your budget.

Are cosmetic treatments permanent?

With good care, veneers and crowns usually last 10–15 years before needing to be replaced. Bonding lasts 5–8 years. Whitening fades slowly and can be refreshed every now and then, depending on how much coffee, tea, or food colour passes through. We'll show you simple ways to keep your new smile looking great for as long as possible.

Orthodontics

Am I too old for braces?

Not at all. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age — many of our patients are in their 30s, 40s, and beyond, finally getting the smile they always wanted. And if you'd rather no one noticed, clear aligners are a quiet, almost-invisible option for adults.

Clear aligners or traditional braces — which is better?

Both are good — it really depends on you. Clear aligners are nearly invisible, can be taken out for meals, and work beautifully for mild to moderate cases. Traditional braces give us more control for trickier cases and are usually a little gentler on the budget. Come in for a consultation and we'll talk through what makes most sense for your smile.

Do I need to wear a retainer forever?

Yes — teeth naturally want to drift a little over the years. A retainer worn at night is a small, easy habit that protects all the work you've done. We'll show you exactly how to look after it so your new smile stays straight for life.

Pediatric

When should my child have their first dental visit?

By their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. Early visits aren't really about treatment; they're about helping your little one feel comfortable with us, so the dentist becomes a familiar friendly place rather than a scary one.

My child is anxious about the dentist — what should I do?

Please tell us in advance — we'll plan extra time so your child is never rushed. We show every tool before we use it, we explain things in words children understand, and we never force treatment. If the first visit ends in just a smile and a high-five, that's a win in our book.

Payment & Insurance

Do you accept insurance?

Yes — we accept most major Ethiopian insurance providers, and we're happy to call your provider for you before any treatment to confirm what's covered. For larger treatments we also offer simple payment plans, so the cost can be spread out and never gets in the way of the care your family needs.
